As a firearm enthusiast and life member of the NRA and a member of Gun Owners of America I would like to introduce you to a new firearm.

It is the Ruger SR 1911, a 45 caliber pistol:

There is a long history of the 1911 firearms first designed by a gentlemen named John Moses Browning. This pistol was built with US Army requirements to replace the 38 caliber pistols which proved ineffective at stopping marauding Moros in the campaign in the Philippines in the early 1900’s.

Many models were prepared and the US Army finalized on a Browning Colt model after eight manufacturers submitted their results. The Army designed tests to determine which model would be selected.

Mr. Browning traveled to Hartford, CT where the guns were manufactured. The original gun shop was in Utah and there was not enough capital and marketing capabilities until this opportunity was borne, via the US Army.

The Army in which the gun fired 100 rounds was rested for 5 minutes designed a torture test. After 1000 rounds the gun was cleaned and oiled. The gun was dipped in acid corrosive solution, put in sand and mud, and then checked for proper operation.

The Browning model passed all tests with flying colors, which were completed on March 3, 1911. Six thousand rounds were fired through each model with the Browning model chosen to be the final selected pistol.

This is how the US Army selected the Browning 1911 and named it M1911 for the military. The Browning model was actually produced by Colt and was formally introduced on March 29, 1911 as the official model.

The Browning designed model was first used in combat in 1916 in the pursuit of Poncho Villa in Mexico. Villa had been terrorizing and killing innocent American citizens in New Mexico.

The US Navy and Marine Corps officially utilized the Model 1911 in 1913.

There are multiple documented references to Medal Of Honor recipients using a M1911 in combat, defending their comrades and some losing their life while defending their country.

So it is with the aforementioned history that I describe the Ruger SR 1911 pistol shown above. It is a relatively new entry into the flooded 1911 market.

What Ruger has managed to do with this 1911 is simply amazing. It is a completely American made model; every single part is produced and manufactured here in America. Many alternatives from other manufacturers are made elsewhere. Not this one from Ruger, made here just like the original.

The import models price out at hundreds of dollars more than the Ruger and Nothing has been compromised in this model. An MSRP of $799 is standard. I happened to purchase mine from a gun store for $699.00

The Ruger 1911 is easily field stripped and cleaned without the challenges of breaking down and reassembling a Ruger Mark 111 pistol, for those of you who have done this. The forged stainless slide is strong and precise.

The barrel is 5 inches overall length is 8.67 inches. It weighs in at 39 oz. with a height of 5.45 inches. The slide is non-glare stainless steel and it has three dot Novak sights. The capacity of this firearm is 8+1. That is eight in the magazine with one round in the chamber, if one so desires. The recoil on this 45 ACP (automatic colt pistol) 1911 is much less than expected. I have a 380 S&W Talo manufactured pistol that has a much larger recoil than the Ruger 1911.

This pistol does not have a firing pin safety, it uses a titanium firing pin and a strong spring to prevent firing if dropped. There is a flip paddle on the left side of the pistol to activate fire mode or safe mode. The grips are double diamond cut wood that are comfortable and it does not easily slip in your hand. The trigger pull is 4.5 lbs and is a very smooth pull right out of the box. What you get with this package is an extremely accurate, affordable and reliable pistol. For you gun enthusiasts, I can highly recommend the Ruger 1911 as a rock solid firearm.

This is the first gun review I have ever written, and my wish is that, this is of interest and some help to you.

Safe and Happy shooting.
