Out of the mouths of babes and crackpots

We have Pat Robertson to thank for Doe-Eyed Danny Quayle being George Bush the Elder’s running mate in 1988 instead of Jack Kemp. Kemp and Robertson had gotten into a bitter tiff during the Iowa caucuses when Robertson himself was going for the nomination.

At the Republican Convention in New Orleans, Robertson got word that Bush had picked Kemp. Furious, he stormed up to Bush and yelled, “If you run with Kemp, I’ll campaign against you and do everything I can to see you are defeated.”

In a panic, Bush dumped Kemp and in desperation with only hours to go before he had to announce his choice, he settled on someone he knew was a lightweight but would be acceptable to Robertson – Indiana Senator Dan Quayle.

Yep, Pat’s the kind of guy who can put personal pique over patriotism. He’s a very likeable fellow in person, a very sharp businessman, a true conservative who would love to see half (at least!) the federal agencies like the Departments of Energy and Education eliminated and their giant buildings in Washington converted to private offices or condos.

He also has a penchant for saying manically crackpot things like warning the city of Orlando, Florida in 1998 that if it allowed a Gay Pride parade, God would punish the city by sending “earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor.”

The press has had a field day this week reciting past wacky Patisms in an attempt to deride his call for the assassination of Venezuela’s Marxist dictator Hugo Chavez. And yes, the point is well made that Christian ministers are not the sort of folks who should advocate such things. But what Pat said is nonetheless true.

Of course, we or somebody, anybody, should knock off Chavez. There was a picture in the papers the other day (before Pat’s comments) of Castro and Chavez riding together in an open jeep during a parade in some town in Cuba – and the first thought I had when I saw the picture was: What a missed opportunity – we could have had a twofer!

Putting a bullet in Chavez’s brain would be one the greatest contributions to peace and freedom in the world today. At his direction, his generals now run much of the cocaine smuggling out of Colombia through Venezuela into the US. His oil billions are funding the Marxist narco-terrorists in Colombia, Hezbollah terrorism in Iraq, and Hamas terrorism in Israel. His Chavista thugs have murdered thousands of Venezuelans opposed to his dictatorship.

Then there was his suspected attempt to assassinate the President of the United States, George W. Bush, in November of last year in Santiago, Chile and possibly again in Cartagena, Colombia – see Chavez in Chile.

While our CIA is too paralyzed and timorous to take action, Pat Robertson’s comments provide useful cover for Colombia President Alvaro Uribe. Chavez is waging open warfare via the FARC narco-terrorists against his country.

Last December, Uribe counter-attacked. In a demonstration of the abilities of his intelligence agents, Uribe had them kidnap FARC leader Rodrigo Granda in broad daylight in downtown Caracas.

In the wake of the Robertson media frenzy, now is an opportune time for a terminal demonstration of their abilities which will be blamed on the Americans. Misdirection is the key to successful magic and the liquidation of demagogues.

There are several excellent technologies to choose from. You don’t need maximum range, like a thousand yards or more, because this will be in an urban environment where the target is exposed at say, a rabble-rousing street rally. So 400 yards max.

You don’t need sub-sonic ammo. You want super-sonic, with the shock wave of the bullet bouncing and echoing off nearby buildings making the direction of origin indeterminate. You will want a flash suppressor for the muzzle.

The Accuracy International L115A1 Super Magnum firing the .338 Lapua 168 grain hollow point boat tail Scenar cartridge, used by the British Royal Marines, would be a fine choice. You’d mount a Smidt & Bender 3×12 variable scope.

There’s the Russian VSS Vintorez using the SP-6 160 grain cartridge capable of piercing military body armor at 400 meters. The favorite of Speznaz special forces teams, it’s full auto, capable of emptying a full magazine of 20 in an instant.

Or there’s the choice of U.S. Marine snipers, the Barrett M-82A3 chambered for the 50 caliber (that’s a very large piece of lead) API MK211 cartridge, mounted with the Unertl 10x scope or the AN/PVS-10 night scope.

Any of these in the hands of a skilled professional will do the job just fine. Good luck, Alvaro!
