THE ILLEGAL ELEPHANT IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM

The Washington Post, flagship of the liberal elite in our nation's capital, ran the most marvelously revealing story this week (1/15).  In typical heart-tugging WaPo style, Emergency Care Waits Found To Be On Rise described the growing nationwide "deadly" crisis of hyper-crowded hospital emergency rooms.

After providing examples and stats showing how much longer it takes to see a physician in an emergency room, the article listed the causes of this "frightening trend."  According to unnamed health care "experts," they are:  an aging population, a shortage of nurses, a shortage of primary care doctors, a rise in the number of "patients coming for non-urgent health problems," hospital/ER closures, and an "underfunded" emergency care medical system.

The idiom "elephant in the room" refers to ignoring something overwhelmingly obvious, pretending it doesn't exist.  Liberals take this one step further – they really don't see the elephant, they willfully blind themselves to the elephant's existence, in this case taking up most of the space in the emergency room of most of the hospitals in the country.

Any of you who have been in an ER recently know exactly what I am talking about:  they are overflowing with illegal aliens speaking a torrent of Spanish demanding free medical care.

Thus the joke about how to clear out a hospital emergency room and see a doctor immediately:  wear a hat or shirt that says:  U.S. Border Patrol.

The cause is a fascist law passed by Congress called the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), forcing hospitals at the point of a government gun to provide medical care to anyone needing emergency treatment regardless of citizenship, legal status, or ability to pay – at the hospitals' own expense.  The government refuses to pay any reimbursement.

There is, of course, nary a whisper nor hint in the WaPo piece about EMTALA and illegals being even a possible-maybe cause of hyper-crowded ERs.  The illegal elephant in the emergency room is invisible to liberals.

You can't talk to someone about something they don't see.  That's why a conversation with a liberal can be so maddening. 

Instead of blowing a gasket at them, keep your cool and understand what is blinding them.

Fear.

Fear really can blind you, make you literally unable to see something there right in front of you. 

In this case, it's the fear of being called a racist that blinds them.  They love to dish it out, love to call conservatives racists, but they can't take it for a picosecond.  Liberals are utterly terrified of being thought of or accused of being "racist." 

This makes them critically vulnerable in this election cycle, in which the issue of illegal immigration is of fundamental concern to a majority of American voters. 

Liberal Democrats (which means most Dems except for Blue Dogs) are paralyzed from offering anything that most Americans would accept as a genuine solution to illegal immigration. 

All Republicans have to do is not care a fig for liberal fears and propose actual solutions – with no need to go off the rails like Huckabee, who in Arkansas said anti-illegal immigration people were anti-Christian bigots, and now wants to deport all 20 million illegals by next Tuesday. 

Fear of proposing real solutions to illegal immigration is a true Achilles Heel for Democrats in November.  All Republicans have to do to take advantage of it is to not be afraid to point to the elephant in the emergency room.
