MODOGGIES: THE LATEST MOSLEM FREAK-OUT

The latest event in what is surely one of the world's most fun sports – Moslem Enragement – is the Modoggy Cartoon Contest taking place in Sweden.

It started out so innocently.  A group of Swedish artists in the small town of Tällberg decided to hold an exhibition entitled "The Dog in Art," and invited submissions.  A famous (and famously eccentric and mischievous) artist, Lars Vilks, exhibited a large cartoon drawing entitled "Mohammed as a Rondell Dog."

A Rondell Dog or Rondellhund has been a harmless art form in Sweden for the last several years.  Anonymous artists have set up plywood or plastic sculptures of dogs in traffic circle roundabouts (rondells) throughout the country.  Here's a typical one:

So Vilks puts up this cartoon sketch:

The Moslem population of Sweden has been exploding recently, Moslems flooding in from Pakistan, Turkey, et al, to such an extent that they have taken over a number of cities like Mälmo.  When they got wind of Vilks' "Modoggy" sketch, they went ballistic.

Vilks began receiving death threats.  He responded with another Modoggy sketch, which he described as:  En skojig teckning av profeten som rondellhund som apporterar ett bombbälte.  Translation:  "A funny drawing of the prophet as a rondell dog having retrieved a suicide bomb belt."

A Swedish newspaper, Nerikes Allehanda, then printed the Modoggy sketches as a way to denounce the death threats against him.  This prompted a formal protest from the government of Iran for the "disrespectful drawing of the Prophet Mohammed."  Arab newspapers condemned the "blasphemous caricature."

The Modoggy Moslem Freak-Out is escalating.  Vilks is not backing down, and no one in Sweden should be surprised.  A dozen years ago, he constructed two large sculptures of driftwood and stone in a remote nature reserve along Sweden's southern coast, then proclaimed the area to be the independent nation of Ladonia.

Citizenship in Ladonia is free upon the submission of a suitable phrase in Latin, while nobility costs $12 with your choice of title – count, lord, baron, countess, baroness, etc.  It's all a great gag, but not to the Swedish government, which is constantly taking him to court.  Every court appearance enhances Vilks' fame and popularity.

So also will the Modoggy cartoons.  Moslems just don't get it, do they?  Their fragile egos and lack of confidence makes them an easy and irresistible target for lampooning.  Maybe someday they'll figure it out and grow up.

In the meantime, let's hoist a glass of iced Absolut to Lars Vilks, who could teach so many in the West how not to apologize and capitulate to the bullying childishness of Islam.
