THE WORST TERROR ATTACK SINCE 9/11

Most Muslims don’t want to kill us.  But a lot of them do.

Omar Mateen, 29, who murdered 49 and wounded 53 in a gay nightclub in Orlando, bragged about his associations with terrorist groups, said Special Agent Ron Hopper of the FBI office in Orlando.

Mateen was homophobic, “unhinged and unstable,” said co-worker Daniel Gilroy, a former police officer.  “He talked about killing people.”

The FBI investigated Mateen in 2013 and 2014. But he wasn’t on a terror watch list; worked for a security firm that has contracts with the Department of Homeland Security.

He complained about Mateen several times, Mr. Gilroy said, but his employer did nothing because he was a Muslim.

“Never in all my years of training, and being involved in several investigative units, to include the FBI Task Force, would we have ever guessed a LGBT club be a target of an terrorist attack, James Copenhaver told the East Orlando Post.

In ten Muslim countries, homosexuality is punished by death.

“Nobody should be shocked that a murderer swearing allegiance to ISIS makes gays his target – particularly during Ramadan, when the group has exhorted its followers to make war on infidels with enhanced intensity,” said former NSA counter-intelligence officer John Schindler.

Nor should it have surprised authorities that Syed Farook and Tafsheen Malik murdered 14 in San Bernardino last December.  Farook expressed “extreme and radical sentiments” well before the shooting, a law enforcement officer told the Washington Post.

Malik, who frequently expressed support of “violent jihad” on Facebook, came to America intending to make a terror attack, said FBI Director James Comey. But the Department of Homeland Security has a “secret policy” which blocks agents from looking at social media of visa applicants.

“The most disturbing aspect of recent terror attacks is that the authorities were taken by surprise each time despite advance warning,” said Richard Fernandez. “This serial failure undercuts the administration’s claim to competence.”

President Obama’s obstinate refusal to distinguish between most Muslims and jihadists insults in particular the nearly 6,000 Muslims who serve in the U.S. military.  He’s the mirror image of Donald Trump, who isn’t careful about making distinctions between Muslims generally and jihadists.

“There are a lot of Muslims in this country who have pledged to be an American, that are paying their taxes, and are law-abiding citizens,” said Marine Staff Sergeant Abdi Akgun. “For Donald to make statements that are bigoted in nature is … not what being an American is about.”

*ISIS arose chiefly because of Mr. Obama’s misguided foreign policy, and his negligence. It remains strong because the president is unwilling to take effective military action against ISIS.

*Islamists recruit chiefly in prisons, and in mosques. But the president has forbidden the FBI to surveil in mosques, ordered all references to Islam deleted from FBI training materials.

*Terrorists released from Guantanamo Bay have murdered at least a dozen Americans.

*Muslim immigration has roughly doubled during Mr. Obama’s presidency.  Little effort has been made to screen for terrorist sympathizers.  But the administration has slow rolled visa applications from Muslims who were interpreters for U.S. armed forces.

“A political elite whose national security philosophy is ‘bring the boys home’ has unfortunately imported the enemy ideology home as well,” Mr. Fernandez said.

The president’s willful dereliction of duty has made Donald Trump’s bigoted and blunderbuss approach to fighting terror more palatable to millions of Americans.

“The events of Orlando have shattered my political beliefs, as I can no longer swear allegiance to a peace-love-and-unicorns progressive philosophy that only helps to get my fellow queers killed, wrote a gay activist, who said he will vote for Trump in November.

“I used to think Trump was full of [expletive],” said a gay man on a Reddit message board. “Today everything changed.”

The Orlando nightclub shooting was the worst terror attack in America since 9/11, the 86th instance of Islamic terror here since then.  If there is another such, it could make Donald Trump president.
