Amazingly nuts: NYC bans natural gas use in new buildings. Bringing natural gas on site to heat water or a building is about 80-90% efficient. Burning natural gas to make electricity to do the same thing is only about 40% efficient, so CO2 emissions are roughly doubled when renewables are not producing.
