What’s it like to be this close to a leopard in the African bush?  To watch as she cuddles and plays with her cub?

To track a young male lion on an early morning hunt?

To learn, as you gaze close by upon an enormous flatdog  – the African nickname for an adult Nile crocodile – that they are impervious to all known diseases and infections?

To witness a bull elephant reaching high for the best tasting leaves…

Or wonder if you have annoyed this bull flaring his ears and all 12,000 pounds of him is about to charge?

When your retreat calms him down, it’s time for a gin-and-tonic sundowner overlooking a river full of crocs and hippos.  What’s it like to enjoy this sunset while sipping that iced G&T?

The answer to these questions is that the only way to know what it’s like is to experience it yourself.

I took these pictures last week.  Back home, it’s hard to go to sleep now without being serenaded by hippos snorting in the lagoon below your thatched bungalow or hyenas whooping out in the bush.  Memories of a Dream Safari like this will remain vivid for the rest of your life.

“Safari” is the Swahili word for “journey.”  We associate it with exploring Africa, but the world is full of other places where you can have a life-memorable Dream Safari adventure.  And you don’t have to reach remotest Africa or Asia to find them.

The latest buzzword in travel these days is “Overtourism.”  The link is to the Wikipedia article – Google the word and you’ll find almost a million hits.  The phenomenon of vast crowds of tourists swarming like locusts over popular tourist spots from Machu Picchu in Peru to China’s Great Wall is real and getting worse.

Especially in Europe.  Drudge this morning (7/24) has a headline linking to the overtourist plague infesting Europe from Venice to Dubrovnik to Barcelona to Paris, on and on.

This is precisely why I designed our Wheeler Expeditions’ Authentic Italy at the end of September.  The link is to the TTP article on it last April.

Think of it as a Dream Safari in Europe – an adventure to the real authentic Italy far beyond the crowds full of really cool places that folks who’ve been to Rome-Venice-Tuscany don’t know about and would love to go to if they did.

Authentic Italy packs a lot in a short time – September 28 to October 6.

We visit spectacular hilltop villages, explore remote historic regions by horse or jeep, stay at charming luxury inns, enjoy great food and wine, explore “the most spectacular city in Italy,” the “oldest continuously inhabited settlement in the world” while at a stunning 5-star hotel, and end at a hidden gem of a resort on the Adriatic Sea.

There’s just one small difficulty.  We’re almost sold out – we can only take one more couple, maybe two.

The Authentic Italy article is chock full of pictures of where we’re going that will blow you away.  Like this:

But there’s only one way to know what it’s like for real – to experience it with me, Rebel, and the other wonderful TTPers who are coming with us.

Carpe diem. If not now, when? Life is short. The time for a great adventure is now.
