NO NEWS IS BAD NEWS

I’ve written often about how the Lying Swine betrayed the fundamental principles of journalism to shill for Democrats.  I’ve written recently about how (much of) the “conservative” media betrayed conservatism to shill for Donald Trump.

Where can a conservative go to find out what’s really going on?

If you’re reading this, you know the most important part of the answer.  Thanks to the extraordinary character, intellect and experience of Dr. Jack Wheeler, you’re more likely to find the truth in To The Point News than in any other publication.

Facts are the building blocks of truth.  You may like a particular fact, dislike it, or be indifferent to it.  But you shouldn’t ignore it.  Facts are what is. If we ignore reality, sooner or later it will bite us in the ass.

Truth is pertinent facts presented in context.  Without intending to deceive, many of us have said things that were not true.  We did so because we were misinformed, or because we made assumptions that did not have a solid grounding in fact.

History indicates which facts are most pertinent to politics and government, and provides context for them.  I know more American history than Jack Wheeler does, but I learn something new about the rest of the world in virtually every column he writes.

Our concept of truth gives rise to our ideologies. Dr. Jack and I believe in the fundamental principle expressed in the Declaration of Independence (that all men are created equal, and are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights), as implemented by the Constitution — that remarkable series of compromises which, after 229 years, is still the newest, freshest idea for governance in world history.  If you subscribe to TTP, this almost certainly is your ideology, too.

A sound ideology, like a sound scientific hypothesis, is testable and refutable.  An ideologue refuses to believe his or her lying eyes.  A principled person pays close attention to evidence, modifies his or her beliefs accordingly.

Only by carefully studying history can we determine what works and what doesn’t.  Nobody puts the events of today in the context of what happened yesterday better than Jack Wheeler.

From time to time, Jack reports news that’s been published nowhere else.  Much of what appears in TTP is news to most of us, because we don’t have his broad range of friends in high places.  But mostly what Jack does – and what contributors like me do – is to sift through facts reported by others to paint a picture of the truth. Where can a conservative go to find reliable original reporting of news?

For me, the most heartbreaking consequence of the catastrophe that is the Trump candidacy has been the corruption of Breitbart News.  Andrew Breitbart started it with the intention of doing the honest investigative reporting the “mainstream” media is supposed to do, but doesn’t.  That it is now a propaganda organ for Trump must have Andrew spinning in his grave.

If conservatism is ever to emerge from the Dark Age into which we’re descending, nothing is more important than to fulfill Andrew Breitbart’s original vision.

For smart guys (I’m assuming most who make big money are smart guys) conservative mega-millionaires can be pretty stupid.  I’m thinking in particular of the dopes who blew more than $100 million on the Jeb Bush candidacy (when it was clear well before Iowa that he didn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell of winning the nomination).

It costs a lot to start a real news service, one that does original reporting, but it would cost a lot less than before the Internet, less than was spent on the Bush campaign.  If a few smart conservatives with deep pockets were to buy UPI, or start up a new service, many conservatives with shallower pockets would buy stock in it.

The goal is to have an honest news service, not a conservative news service, because nothing would benefit conservatism – or America — more than honest, even-handed reporting of the news.  That was the promise Fox News made – and broke.

There aren’t many journalists these days who are both honest and competent, but if they could join a well funded news organization determined to report the truth without regard to which politicians or parties were helped or hurt, there are enough to run rings around the Lying Swine.

To hasten the arrival of honest reporting, we must abandon frauds.  Turn off Fox News. Don’t listen to Limbaugh, Hannity, Laura Ingraham or Michael Savage.

Some of you defended Limbaugh, because he hasn’t slobbered all over Trump the way Hannity has, and Mark Levin, because recently he’s been backing Cruz.

But last summer and fall, when it mattered most, Limbaugh and Levin promoted Trump almost as enthusiastically as Hannity, Ingraham and Savage.  Limbaugh still makes excuses for the Donald.

Hannity is a moron.  Limbaugh and Levin are anything but.  They knew from the get go who Trump really is, but boosted him anyway.  I’ll never forgive them for that.

If you can’t kick the talk radio habit, listen to John Ziegler, Hugh Hewitt, or Charlie Sykes out of Milwaukee — smart guys who think America is more important than making a few extra bucks baiting the boobs.

Until there is an honest source of original reporting here, read British (especially the London Telegraph) and Australian newspapers and the Jerusalem Post to find out what’s happening in the world.

The Washington Free Beacon and the Daily Caller do some original reporting.  The College Fix keeps tabs on the vile things happening on college campuses today.

TTP is the best place for news analysis, but you should read National Review and the Weekly Standard too.  Town Hall and the Federalist have not been infected with Trumpism.  Among blogs that do a fine job are Power Line and Legal Insurrection.

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free,” the Bible says (John 8:32 KJV).

If America is ever to be free again, conservatives must make it their paramount objective to get the truth to as many Americans as possible – as soon as possible.
