SCIENCE HAS DISGRACED ITSELF WITH ITS WARMIST DECEIT

It was based on surface temperature measurements, which show temperatures rising almost twice as fast as do satellites and weather balloons. Chiefly because of the “heat island effect,” surface measurements tend to report more warming than has actually occurred.

Noting urbanization corrupts readings from HCN stations, NCDC established the U.S. Climate Reference Network – 114 stations sited in pristine environments – in 2005. Temperatures in America have cooledabout 0.4 degrees C since then, USCRN data indicate.

According to the weather satellite dataset maintained by the University of Alabama at Huntsville, 2014 was tied with 2005 for 3rd warmest year. It was the 7th warmest, said Remote Sensing Systems. RSS data show no statistically significant warming since October, 1996.

What is significant is the large and increasing divergence between warming predicted by climate models and real world measurements, said Judith Curry, former chair of the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech.

Honest scientists would make note of the disparity (and been alarmed by it); examined their models to determine where they went awry; adjusted them to more nearly reflect reality.

This isn’t happening at hotbeds of warmism, where scientists know they won’t be held accountable for what they say and do.

In the Congressional hearing in1988 that launched the global warming scare, GISS director James Hansen overestimated by 150 percent the warming that would occur by 2012. The West Side Highway in New York City will be underwater in “30 or 40 years,” he predicted in an interview that year.

The Hudson River must rise 10 feet to cover the West Side Highway. By 2011, it had risen 2.5 inches.

Surface temperature readings come from the GHCN, which covers only about 20 percent of the Earth’s surface. The number of stations has been cut roughly in half since 1990. Most of those abandoned were in rural areas. Readings in the remaining GHCN stations can be up to 2 degrees C higher than in the rural areas that were lost, said Christopher Booker.

GISS says a large swath of South America in which there are few GHCN stations is warming about twice as fast as is the rest of the world.
But the raw data from the stations which cover most of that area show temperatures declining. GISS “adjusted” the data to show warming.

Adjustments made to raw data from GHCN stations in the Arcticraised warming reported there by about a degree Celsius.

Temperatures in the Arctic around 1940 were warmer than at anytime since, James Hansen indicated in a 1987 paper. GISS subsequently dropped the warming spike down the Memory Hole, but papers in 2005and 2013confirmed Arctic temperatures peaked before 1950.

“This wholesale manipulation of the official temperature record – for reasons GHCN and GISS have never plausibly explained — has become the real elephant in the room of the greatest and most costly scare the world has known,” Christopher Booker said.
