INDIA’S RONALD REAGAN

Hi, fellow TTPers.  You first heard from me last October when I told you about The Coming Capitalist Salvation of India.

It was a heads-up regarding the almost impossible-to-believe level of government venality and corruption in India today – and its impending cure: the election of India’s Ronald Reagan, Narendra Modi.  So I’d like to suggest you re-read it to get you back to speed before we discuss what’s happening right now.

Ready?  OK, here we go.

Since India’s last general election in 2009, 100 million more voters have been added to the rolls, bringing India’s electorate to 815 million.  You can’t have them vote all at once, so the 2014 election is taking place in 9 regional phases from April 7 to May 12.  All 543 seats of India’s Parliament, the Lok Sabha, will be chosen from a multitude of parties.  The results will be announced on May 16.

The country has not witnessed this kind of excitement about an election since independence in 1947. There have been record voter turnouts across the country. I cannot emphasize the prominence of this election to India and the world. The result of this election will not just change but transform the country, either for good or worse.

The contest is viewed primarily as one between the currently governing Congress Party, which has dominated India’s politics since 1947 and led by the Gandhi family, and the Bharatiya Janata Party or BJP now led by Modi.  Most of the minority parties are allied with one or the other.

However, the massive amounts of corruption has recently led to the emergence of a new political party known as the Aam Admi Party (Common Man’s Party or AAP). Their anti-corruption rhetoric struck a chord with the harassed Indian middle class which went on to vote for them in the 2013 Delhi state elections.

Yet the AAP went on to form the Delhi government with the help of none other than the hyper-corrupt Congress party. Unfortunately AAP turned out to be yet another Marxist party, promising freebies and targeting the "rich" and "corporates" (businesses).  Earlier this year, the AAP announced it would have candidates for over 400 Lok Sabha seats. There were many predictions that the AAP would win so many seats it would deprive both Congress and BJP of a majority.

As elections began, it turned out there were only 70 AAP candidates, 47% of whom are social workers.  No one is worrying about the AAP any more.

India’s political equilibrium has thus been thoroughly been shaken as the majority of the opinion polls now predict a BJP victory. The political elite are unable to fathom the possibility of Modi becoming the Prime Minister. For over a decade the liberals and the mainstream media ruthlessly attacked Modi but each time he came out stronger.

The attacks were very similar to the way Sarah Palin was attacked by America’s libs. It is despicable and yet great considering that Modi has overcome all that.

With two weeks to go, the smears and lies get ever more hysterical – while Modi has been campaigning vigorously conducting 4-5 rallies in a single day across the length and breadth of the country. In his rallies he has been offering solutions to almost every problem being faced by the country.

His main mantra has been minimum government, maximum governance.  He’s focusing on anti-corruption, reforming the police, relaxing regulations, creating jobs, improving infrastructure and providing 24/7 electricity, introducing more courts etc.

He is offering a road map of development. He has a vision. He is inspiring millions of young Indians. From a tea porter to a prime ministerial aspirant, he has come a long way.

His campaign strategy has been brilliant. He did not make this a BJP vs. Congress fight. For the first time in India, he turned this into a US presidential type of contest, a contest of personalities. There is no other leader who can even come close let alone match his caliber. He is an excellent orator with a proven track record. He does not apologize for his conservative roots. He uses 3D holograms to address millions of people simultaneously in multiple locations.

The corrupt elite has been warning the country about the possible catastrophic effect of a Modi government. The response has been:

"If Modi destroys the India created by 67 years of Congress-style secularism and socialism, he will be doing India a real service".

Why do the Congress, AAP, the Left  and some within the BJP itself despise him? Why is it that political parties across the country are putting aside their differences and uniting to fight him? Well, apart from what you have read above, Modi is the greatest threat to the corrupt liberal-left ideology – indeed, to its very existence.

The primary point in contention here is Envy. This is where the divide between the Left and the Right occurs. People on the Left want to alleviate poverty by redistributing wealth, while people on the Right want to alleviate poverty by creating jobs which creates more wealth. Liberals may use different paths but the end result is always more government, higher taxes and redistribution (the left’s term for "theft").

While the Elite Left talks about welfare, freebies and redistributive theft, Modi talks about jobs, development, and independence.  "Modinomics" is as different from traditional BJP’s, just as Reaganomics differed from traditional GOP’s, and in the same way.  As a result, Modi is carrying the expectations of hundreds millions of people across the country.

What he can fulfill depends on how many seats the BJP wins. Without a minimum of 250 seats BJP will not be able to form a strong government. If he fails to do so, the task will get much harder as handling partners in a coalition government is no walk in the park.

The Congress Party has been ruling the country for decades and they are fighting for their very existence. They are not going down without a fight. In Mumbai 6 million names were deleted from the electoral list,  while illegal Moslem immigrants from Bangladesh are given voter ID’s to vote. (Sound familiar?).

Modi terrifies the political elite not only because he will end their control of domestic policy, but of India’s squishy foreign as well.

As Jack Wheeler has said many times, a strong India is necessary and needed to contain China and its imperialist threat to the world.  This threat is acute for India.  China claims over half of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, for example.  At a recent rally there in the town of Pasighat, Modi explicitly warned China to let go of its "Expansionist views".

I do not know of any other Indian leader of his stature to speak out in the open against China.  You can expect a Modi government to form a strategic military alliance with Japan, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, and especially Vietnam to counter China.

The world can also expect ties between Israel and India to improve. We both fight a common enemy at our borders and with Modi at the helm Israel will have a strong ally in South Asia.

When we come to the United States, it will be very interesting how Obama will interact with a conservative, pro-capitalist Hindu prime minister.

As I said last October, there are no words to describe what the Congress Party has done to India in the last 6 decades. Just like there are no words to describe what the Democrat Party has done to America in the same time.

And just like the Dems in the US, Congress in India will do whatever it takes to hold onto the government. It never tires of demonizing Modi among India’s Moslems, one of the largest Islamic populations in the world at 138 million.  It has introduced numerous populist schemes, one so insane it will ruin the country — the introduction of a quota for lower caste people in the private sector.

This means that, an owner of a company will be forced to hire individuals on the basis of caste and not skill and talent of an individual.  Liberals do not comprehend the concept of equality. They do not understand that we may be equal before the race begins, not at the finish line.

I am quite young, in my early 20s.  It’s hard to convey the excitement and hope for the future so many millions of young Indians like me feel regarding Narendra Modi.  Countless millions of older Indians feel it as well.  India has never had a pro-capitalist non-corrupt government since its independence in 1947.  Now we have the chance to get it..

This election could make or break us. India is at the crossroads of a critical transition. Will Indians be stupid enough to choose the corruption of the Congress Party, or will India elect its Ronald Reagan?  We’ll find out in little more than two weeks.

–Your friend in India, Karma Singh
