THE POGO PRESIDENCY

Ever hear of a guy named Walt Kelly?  He was born in Philly in 1913, moved to California in the 30s to draw Donald Duck cartoons for Walt Disney, and started his own newspaper comic strip in 1949.

It featured anthropomorphic animals in Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp, with the main character named Ponce de Leon Montgomery County Alabama Georgia Beauregard Possum – a dig at the South’s pretentious aristocracy.

Kelly titled his comic strip after Ponce’s nickname – Pogo.  If you grew up in the 50s or 60s, you grew up with Pogo, along with an innumerable cast of lovable animal characters (there were almost 1,000 over the years), all poking gentle fun at the human condition.  In 1971, two years before his death from diabetes, he published the cartoon for which he is best known.

The source was the critically important (for America’s survival as an intact nation) naval battle of the War of 1812, the Battle of Lake Erie, where 27 year-old Commodore Oliver Perry heroically defeated the British.

After the victory, on the back of a used envelope Perry scribbled a message to his commander, General William Henry Harrison (later to be the 9th US President), informing him with the famous words, "We have met the enemy and they are ours."

Kelly turned this around as a comment on the entire craziness of the 60s, then peaking in 1971, and had Pogo say:

This is more frighteningly relevant today than 42 years ago – and the "us" is all of us.  There are varying degrees of complicity.  At the top, of course, is an Anti-American President who hates his own country.

Right under him are his courtiers and henchmen, from Valerie Jarrett to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to the propagandists of the Enemedia.  Under them are the crony capitalists who finance them with money stolen from taxpayers.  And under them are the moochers and idiots who support and vote for them.

And the rest of us?  Who among is not complicit?  Who among us is refusing to obey, who is saying "I will not comply" with their fascist, unconstitutional, patently illegal and immoral edicts?

Last week, my friend John Bolton told those at CPAC that "the greatest national security threat to the United States is Barack Obama."  This week, my friend Peter Ferrara in The American Spectator provides the evidence for John’s claim:  that Zero is restarting the Cold War and intends to lose it.

Peter outlines Zero’s goal of unilateral nuclear disarmament.  If only for that reason alone, we can conclude, he says, that Zero is a real-life Manchurian Candidate.

The Cold War was between America and the Soviet Union.  We won, the Soviet Union is no more, Putin’s dream is resurrecting it, and views Zero as a candy-ass wimp who hasn’t the guts to stop him.

Putin is wrong, however.  Zero is a ruthless narcissistic fascist, certainly no wimp when it comes to dealing with domestic opponents.  The reason he is not as ruthless in dealing with foreign opponents is that – like all American lefties – he’s on their side.

No matter who the opponent and enemy of America has been since World War II – take Castro or the Sandinistas for example – the Left always  roots for them and not the USA.

Where Putin is right about Zero is in viewing him as an ignoramus about the world, an incompetent amateur hopelessly out of his depth.  Zero is an affirmative action baby, handed everything on a platter without earning it because of his race and made-up bio.

He’s our #1 security threat because he doesn’t want to defend us, and worse, doesn’t know how if he did want to.  Bad combo.

Which bring us to the real security threat beyond our shores.  It isn’t Russia, with its one-trick pony economy that can’t even get itself above water with oil at $100 a barrel.  Putin is all bare-chested bluster, all hat and no cattle.  No, the real foreign threat we face is China.

I’ve been going to China since 1979, and as you know, just got back from there again last week.  Here are three pictures of the spectacular places we visited that I took with my Panasonic DMC-TZ5 compact camera.  There is a particular reason for me to show them to you.

I called this adventure Hidden China because these are places hidden and unknown to the world outside China.  But they are certainly known to the Chinese.  We were the only foreigners there, and me with my tiny hand-held Panasonic – while there were hordes of Chinese all tricked out with tripods, light meters, fancy DSLRs, giant zoom lenses.

Everyone of them had at least $5,000-$10,000 worth of camera equipment – some of their lenses alone cost five grand.  I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere else in the world, and it was the same everyplace we went.

This is one concrete example of how much disposable income there is in China today.  The number of Chinese who are wealthier than the average American easily exceeds the entire population of the US.  They are not about to jeopardize that wealth by challenging the rule of their Commie government – and that Commie government is out for our blood.

The Chicoms want to be King of the World’s Hill – and they see the opportunity to be so with this Pogo President in the White House.

Winning the Cold War against a bunch of geriatric corrupt drunks in Kremlin was a cake walk compared to what we are up against with China.  The Chicoms have serious vulnerabilities, yes – but so do we, and they are serious about exploiting ours and we are not serious about exploiting theirs.

This is our deadly problem in a nutshell, so I ask that you read and ponder the previous sentence again.

The Chinese people do not want to be our enemy.  Look at these two kids whose parents told them I was an American.

How adorable can you get?  Yet Chinese are fanatically nationalistic, enabling the Chicom propaganda machine to play them like a Stradivarius.  The current foreign devil is Japan because it actually wants to defend itself from Chicom imperialism in the East China Sea.

The demonization of Japan currently underway in the Chicom press is hysterically non-stop, constantly resurrecting the WWII horrors perpetrated by the grandfathers and great-grandfathers of the Japanese people today.

The US, of course, is the ally of Japan and responsible for defending it by treaty.  We could be China’s Great Satan tomorrow.

We are not going to get rid of China like we got rid of the Soviet Union.  The Reagan Doctrine was a frontal assault on the Kremlin’s mortal vulnerabilities and it worked.  That won’t work with China.  Neutering the Chicom Threat is going to take finesse – finesse on steroids.

It’s going to take stitching together an alliance between Japan, South Korea (already you see the problem right there), the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, and India to mutually stand up to Chicom imperialism.  Yes, the Vietnamese Commies have to be our allies.

It’s going to take telling the Chicoms they have to graduate from Kindergarten where children learn to share – instead of losing their temper when told all the toys in the South China Sea are not theirs.

This is not going to be easy.  It will take vastly more intelligence, wisdom, courage and competence than Zero or anyone around him can possibly muster – even if they wanted to which they don’t.

There is no way to force a Pogo President to adequately defend his country when he has no desire to do so.  What we can do is stand up to him and his fascist minions domestically.  The only way to stop being part of "the enemy is us" is to stop complying with the enemy.

This can start locally.  You can stand up to the fascist tyrants on your City Council and School Board.  Our country is being destroyed from within, so we must start from deep within, in every neighborhood, town, county, then Congressional District.  We have a Pogo Presidency but we don’t have to be a Pogo People.

The time to stop being one is today.

Ps.  Okay, here’s more of the Hani Terraces.  There are thousands upon countless thousands of them carved by hand out of the hillsides by the Hani and Yi people over the past 2,000 years.  It is incredibly breathtaking, easily one of the most extraordinary man-made wonders on earth.
