TECHNOLOGY TO PROTECT YOU

At the Remember The Alamo Rendezvous, I discussed a number of the latest technologies to protect you.  Jack asked me to list them for you with a brief description.  I’m happy to do so.

Identity Stronghold is a site that sells RFID protectors for licenses, credit cards etc. They also sell passport protectors and wallets that have RFID protector inserts for the all your Security card needs.

Ixquick is simply the safest search browser to use on the globe. They do not track you and your searches are private as they can be on the web. They also have recently introduced a proxy service which allows you to search the entire web safely. To learn more about the proxy service visit here:  Proxy

Locational Privacy learn how your preconceived ideas of freedom moving about the mall, county or country are changing. Do what you can to protect your identity and privacy now.

Spybot so aptly named is a utility that will search your hard drive for invasions, bots, identity theft etc.

Ccleaner is a free utility to delete cookies and get rid of Temp files hanging around taking up space. It also has a section to delete unneeded registry keys in Windows. In addition it has a section where you can choose what processes to start up when boots up. This can save significant time when not utilizing processes that are not necessary.

Cryptohippie (developed by TTPer Paul Rosenberg) is a service that will enable you to surf the web and to conduct business in a manner that is not subject to tracking and surveillance. This service also provides secure "Chat" and "Email" services. It is not free, however I highly recommend it for protection on line.

Ironkey is a secure USB flash drive that has an internal Firefox browser that is secure. Also the information stored on one of these drives is secure and sage. It you utilize a strong password and it is stolen or lost, after ten attempts that key will physically self destructs and will never be recovered. The information you put on the drive is backed up on Ironkey’s secure servers.

4SecureMail is a secure mail provider that encrypts with RSA SSL encryption. Their paid for service also provides a spam filter and anti-virus protection. Their filters are so effective that I have never in almost a year received one bit of mailed SPAM through their servers.

In addition make sure that your are safe when you do online banking. One of the best things you can do is use a virtualization application like "VMWare" for the PC or "Fusion" for the Macintosh. Another good virtualization program for the Macintosh is "Parallels".

An alternative is using one browser for your online banking only.  Mozilla’s Firefox v. 3.6 is an excellent choice.
