Here’s the question of the week:  What if King Canute had been a liberal?

You know the ancient tale.  Canute (985-1035), son of Sven Forkbeard, Viking ruler of both Scandinavia and England, tired of the endless flattery of courtiers trying to curry his favor, ordered his throne brought to the seashore at Bosham in West Sussex on England’s southern coast.

Ensconced on his throne wearing his royal robes and commanding his courtiers to stand around him, he delivered a Royal Order to the sea to stop the incoming tide so that his royal feet should not get wet.  The sea did not obey, the tide washed over his feet, whereupon he railed at his flatterers:

"Let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the name, but He whom heaven, earth, and sea obey by eternal laws."

But what if Canute had been a liberal?  What if he really believed he could command the tide – and continued to believe it as the tide washed over him and threatened to sweep him out to sea?

Wouldn’t that remind you of Democrats facing the tide of 2010?  Of glowarmers commanding the tide of truth to stop?  Of the OPM (Obama Propaganda Media) denying the very existence of tides?

Climategate has exposed the entire global warming enterprise as a criminal conspiracy – and Barbara Boxer wants those who exposed the truth put in jail.  Not one OPM member has done a single story on Climategate.

The odds that the Dems will lose their House and Senate majorities next year are massively mounting – and 58 (out of 60) Dems voted yesterday (12/03) in the Senate to cut half a trillion dollars from Medicare, the program that matters most to high-voting seniors.

The rulers of the Democrat Party, along with their courtiers in academia and the media, have evidently gone clinically insane.  There doesn’t seem to be any other rational explanation.  It’s like King Canute sitting on his throne as the waves wash over him while he smilingly declares, "See, I told you the sea would obey my command!"  — and he then orders any courtier who disagrees to be drawn and quartered.

Where is there sanity in the world this week?  Switzerland would top the list.  On Sunday (11/29), over 57% of Swiss voters and 22 out of 26 cantons passed a ban on the construction of minarets for Moslem mosques.

Oh the outrage!  Condemnation exploded all over the world’s liberal and Moslem press.  There is, of course, no outrage when Moslem countries ban or severely restrict the building of Christian churches.

The funniest claim of the global lib press is how "isolated" the Swiss are by their vote, and that such a ban would be overwhelmingly rejected by the rest of Europe which is free of Swiss racism and hate.

My pal Pam Geller of Atlasshrugs has compiled the results of polls taken in France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Austria, and other European bastions of liberal tolerance, asking citizens if they would vote to ban minarets in their countries.  Turns out – surprise – a majority in all of them would love to have the freedom the Swiss embrace.

As Pam says:  "The Swiss have hit a chord. The EU, the OIC, the UN, the elites do not speak for freedom loving people. The Swiss have given voice to the voiceless. Hallelujah."  Her poll compilation is here.  Thanks, Pam!

How about this for a great headline?  Ousted Honduran leader is trapped with few options.  As predicted by the HFR last week, Sunday’s election (11/29) went off without a hitch, with well over 60% turnout, and a unanimity among the hundreds of international observers that the election was "free and fair."

The Honduran Congress then followed this up by voting on Wednesday (12/02) 111-14 to deny reinstatement of Zelaya until president-elect Porfiro Lobo is inaugurated January 27.  Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, Belize have already announced recognition – as has the US – with many more to follow.  Brazil’s Lula angrily denounced them all.  But who’s isolated now, Lula?

Lula’s buddy, Hugo Chavez, could finally be about to lose it all.  Chavez’s move to nationalize Venezuela’s banks means the economy is on the verge of complete collapse.  First, Hugo will seize the assets of banks that are solid and solvent, like Banco Mercantil and Banco Exterior, and turn them over to the bankrupt "zombie" banks run by corrupt Chavez cronies like Fernandez Barrueco.

Then there will be no money at all, as Hugo will have run out of money to steal.  Soon it will be Buenos noches for the Caracas Fascist.

We can also say goodnight this week to Mike Huckabee’s presidential hopes.  In 1988, Dem candidate Gov. Mike Dukakis flamed out over his furlough of convicted murderer Willie Horton, who proceeded to brutally rape a woman.  On Sunday (11/29) a convicted felon and child-rapist, Maurice Simmons, murdered four policemen in Lakewood, Washington.  Turns out he’d been pardoned by Governor Huck back in Arkansas.

For various reasons, Huck gives a lot of conservatives the creeps.  Given that, Huck being Hortonized is the fatal blow to his White House hopes.

Say, isn’t the media’s Silly Season supposed to be summer not winter?  Then what’s up with the ridiculous media frenzies regarding Tiger Woods, and some couple who snuck into a party at the White House?  Who cares?   Okay, they are mildly amusing stories worth at least 30 seconds of perusal – but headlines day after day after day?

If folks need a diversion from all that is destroying their country and their family’s financial future, there are far better ones to be found in their church, their living room with their family, their bedroom with their spouse, or their local bar with good friends.

You can’t beat this for good news.  On Wednesday (12/03) the state senate of New York – New York! – voted 38-24 against a bill to legalize homosexual "marriage" (HM).  We’re not just in Kansas anymore, Toto – one man/one woman marriage, the real traditional deal, is here to stay in the USA.

After voters in Maine – Maine! – repealed the legalization of HM by the state legislature, becoming the 31st state to ban it by popular vote on November 4th, HM is outlawed in another hyper-lib bastion, New York.  HM is now legally banned in 41 states – and next in line is New Jersey – New Jersey!  under incoming Republican governor Chris Cristie.

Until a few years ago, nobody in their right mind ever imagined in their wildest dreams that HM would be a legal possibility.  Then suddenly it became the cause célèbre of the Fascist Left, which has always wanted to destroy the traditional family as an obstacle to state control over the lives of everyone.

For a while, it looked like the left would win and marriage would be destroyed as an institution – the institution that made us human:  see Marriage and The Missing Link, from last May.   Now, HM is so yesterday.

And just how yesterday has Climategate made Global Warming?

A demonstration was provided this week by the ultimate liberal smart-ass, Jon Stewart of The Daily Show, who can’t resist an irresistible comic target even if he’s a fellow über-lib.

"Poor Algore! Oh the irony!" Stewart intones as the audience laughs.  "Global warming completely debunked – by the Internet you invented…"

Enjoy the show:

Yesterday will be the Democrats’ theme song for 2010 – longing for those days (was it just a few months ago?) when America and the world worshipped them and their Messiah.

Those days are gone.  Next year, the Dems will be singing a mournful dirge adapted from the Beatles’ classic:

Yesterday,
All my troubles seemed so far away,
Now it looks as though they’re here to stay,
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly,
I’m not half the party I used to be,
There’s a shadow hanging over me,
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why the voters
Had to go I don’t know, they wouldn’t say.
I said,
Something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday,
Politics was such an easy game to play,
Now I need a place to hide away,
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Yesterday is theirs.  Tomorrow is ours.
