HALF-FULL REPORT 7/24/09

As the HFR goes to press this Friday morning, a Kabuki drama is unfolding on the Honduran-Nicaraguan border.  Exiled former president Zelaya is reported by the Miami Herald to be in Esteli, Nicaragua trying to cross into Honduras.  Soldiers and opponents of Zelaya have gathered at the Las Manos Honduran border crossing, as well as a few Zelaya supporters.

It so happens that I am familiar with the Honduran-Nicaraguan border, having crossed it several times surreptitiously with the Contras in the 80s.  This is rough country, and I can assure you Zelaya will not try this as I did, on foot through mountainous jungle.  He’s not in shape and he’s too big and fat for his people to carry.

He has to go by road, and there are only three along the entire border.  The one from Chinandega in the south really leads to nowhere in southern Honduras.  The main Pan American Highway is too easily blocked.  The third is a northern spur of the Pan Am, to Ocotal, then over difficult mountains with the road often washed out (and this is the rainy season) to the Las Manos crossing and on to the Honduran towns of El Paraiso and Danli.

Thus his options are very limited and easy to stymie.  He is engaged in nothing more than a media stunt.  Small groups of his supporters continue to block roads, and to avoid violence the government is not forcibly removing them.  By contrast, over 100,000 Hondurans marched peacefully in the capital of Tegucigalpa this week (7/22) in support of their new government and against Zelaya’s return.

Even the New York Times of Florida and just as left-wing, the Miami Herald in the link above is admitting that "support is flagging" for Zelaya.  Meanwhile, the evidence of Zelaya’s criminality continues to mount.  See, e.g., this story from neighboring Belize on how he had the election vote-counting computers rigged.

And as explained in The Bravest Country In The World,  the Honduran government continues to stand firm against world pro-communist pressure to capitulate.

It’s not over until it’s over, but things are looking better for Honduras today.

Who knew Senator Jim DeMint’s real name is Arthur Wellesley?

You may not know that name, but surely you know his title – for he is known to history as the Duke of Wellington (1769-1852), who achieved victory over Napoleon at Waterloo in present-day Belgium on June 18, 1815.

And surely you’ve heard that DeMint has hit Zero right in the gazongas with his one-word devastation of ObamaCare, describing it as Zero’s "Waterloo."

That one word put the Pelosicrats so on the defensive that they’re airing TV ads attacking DeMInt – who quickly attacked back.  In a brilliant move yesterday (7/23), he ignored the Pelosicrats and went straight for Zero personally.  Read the story and smile.

This is starting to get hilarious.  Washington is completely abuzz over Zero’s whining to a Democrat Congressman with doubts about ObamaCare, "You’re going to destroy my presidency."

Yes, it really is all about him, isn’t it?

Because of Wellesley’s monumentally historical victory at Waterloo, we only remember him for that – but he had an extraordinary military career before it, and a great political career afterward.  In fact, he was elected Prime Minister of England (1828-1830), governing as a Tory conservative and greatly expanding religious freedom.

When you consider that Jim DeMint is leading the charge against Zero’s domestic fascism and against Zero’s anti-freedom anti-America foreign policy (Jim is a main supporter of freedom in Honduras and Iran, for example), it’s easy to continue the comparison to Wellesley – all the way to 2012.

DeMint-Palin, Palin-DeMint?  In any regard, this shows our future is not all on Sarah’s shoulders.  The more conservative champions we have the better, and Senator Jim DeMint is certainly one of them.

This really has been a Bad Week at Black Rock for President Zero.  He’s bet his White House farm on ObamaCare and it’s flaming out.  He’s flaming out in the polls (below 50% in Rasmussen).  His press conference (7/22) was a disaster.  Doctors despise him for being called greedy.  Cops despise him for being called stupid.

"Stupidgate" is a defining moment.  Suddenly, millions of Americans are realizing how stupid he is rather than cops – and how racist.  Henry Gates is a professional black racist, paid to be such by Harvard University.  Sgt. James Crowley is a professional police officer, so non-racist he teaches classes on racial profiling for the Cambridge, Mass. Police department.

Gates is the racist in the dispute between them, and by stupidly taking Gates’ side, so is Zero – on display for everyone to see.

So, what else has gone wrong this week?  The argument for glowarming, for one.  A new peer-reviewed study in current issue (7/23) of the Journal of Geophysical Research eviscerates glowarming "science."

"Nature, not man, is responsible for recent global warming," the study concludes.  "Little or none of the late 20th century warming and cooling can be attributed to humans."

Also on Wednesday (7/23), a study by the Science & Public Policy Institute revealed that the federal Government has spent $79 billion of taxpayer money since 1989 on climate science funding.

The study calls such funding a "monopsony" – a market of one buyer and many sellers, as opposed to a monopoly, a market of one seller and many buyers.  To get the monopsonist buyer’s grant money, scientists must sell what is desired:  "science" for and never against glowarming.

$79 billion has proven easily enough to bribe hordes of scientists, science writers, science journals, science organizations and institutions to sell their souls and integrity.  It will take a long, long time before they can recover from their disgrace.

One last disaster for Zero this week – the extent to which Bibi Netanyahu is flipping him off.

Zero has been angrily demanding there be no more Jewish "settlements" in East Jerusalem – a district of Israel’s capital that he somehow believes doesn’t belong to Israel but to "Palestinians" instead.

Bibi told Zero on Sunday (7/19) to stick it, that Jews could live and build homes anywhere in "unified Jerusalem."

The "settlement" in particular question is a straightforward small city called Maaleh Adumim, with schools, hospitals, shopping malls, and lots of Jews living in comfortable condos.  The city’s mayor, Benny Kashriel, says that since Zero’s campaign against his city, real estate prices have shot up, and all 450 apartments in the latest condo development are now sold out.

So Israelis are voting for Bibi and against Zero with their wallets.  No wonder Zero’s popularity in Israel is at 6% in the latest polls.  The HFR wonders how long it will be until he reaches that bottom in America.
