THE BEAUTY OF 2010

One of John McCain’s very few funny quotes is, "It’s always darkest just before it goes totally black."

It brings to mind the old gag:  Things were really going bad when a friend told me:  "Cheer up, things could be worse!"  So I took his advice.  I cheered up, and sure enough, things got worse.

Are we talking about the Republicans here, after getting wiped out in the last two elections and seemingly at death’s electoral door?

Nope, we’re talking about The One, The Obamessiah, the Magic Negro – Zero himself.

Thirty years ago, the cast of Saturday Night Live called themselves "The Not Ready for Prime Time Players."  It was self-deprecating humor, for several of them went on to become huge stars, like Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, John Belushi, and Chevy Chase.

Right now, it is dawning on folks all over the country that Zero really isn’t ready for prime time, that they were conned by the leftstream media to elect an empty suit who has never managed as much as a corner store and is a clueless naïve fool who doesn’t know what he’s doing.

And they have done this just as the American economy is falling into an abyss.

As we noted last week, Zero dropped 20 points in popularity, from 83% to 63% during his first 12 days in office.  Next week it will be below 60%.  A year from now, it will be below 40%.  It could even be below 30%.

A few days ago, the big headline on Drudge was Zero saying economic recovery "will take years, not months."  But he’s only got months.  He doesn’t have years. 

Zero wants to compare himself to FDR. But there’s a different timeline.  Hoover was inaugurated president in March, 1929 and the stock market crashed less than 8 months later.  For all of 1930, 1931, and 1932, America slipped deeper into the Great Depression.  By the time FDR took office in March of 1933, the Depression was Hoover’s lock, stock, and barrel.  FDR couldn’t blamed for it.

This time, our economy began tanking in the last two months or so of Bush’s presidency.  Zero, therefore, has got about six months or so before he can no longer blame George and he will own the Depression of 2009 all by himself.

He will also own the gutting of the Defense budget (two Congressmen on the Armed Services Committee tell me that he plans at least a 10% cut), the homosexualization of our military, federal funding of abortions, and the Moslem terrorist attacks sure to come on our soil.

When the public has maniacally high expectations, only to see them thwarted and dashed to the ground, heroes turn into zeros very, very fast. 

What happens to Zero when he is no longer worshipped but hated instead?  For someone whose personality consists primarily of empty narcissism and hubris, it could be psychologically catastrophic.  When that someone is the single most powerful human being on earth, it could be catastrophic for all of us.

This disturbing question was asked by a perceptive TTPer on the Forum, who notes that

"The One having a functional, emotional and psychological breakdown under the calamitous pressure and problems of office in the next year is a very serious possibility."

Underneath that famously calm and cool exterior lies a fragile ego, like that of all narcissists.  As his failures and flounders mount, as his inability to deal with the monumental problems and threats voters expect him to solve becomes obvious no matter how much the media covers for him, his ego could disintegrate.

The Presidential Succession Act of 1947 provides for the following order of succession.  If the President is incapacitated, dies, resigns, is for any reason unable to hold his office, or is removed from office (impeached and convicted), first in line to succeed him is the Vice-President (Joe Biden), second is the Speaker (Nancy Pelosi), third is the President Pro Tempore of the Senate (91 year-old Bobby "Sheets" Byrd), fourth is the Secretary of State (Hillary Clinton).

The least nightmarish of these is Joe Biden.  He’s goofy and incompetent, but at least he’s somewhat normal, not a radical fascist, senile, or viciously evil.

Yet none of these succession scenarios is likely to happen – unless Zero suffers a complete mental breakdown and is either judged incapacitated or resigns (he’s in good physical health and he’s not going to be impeached).

For all of Zero’s anti-capitalist leftwing bias, all he really cares about as a true narcissist is his "legacy" of a successful presidency, even if it’s only one term.

And just who might be able to do this for him, if he is nice and cooperative?  Not the Pelosicrats.  Not the party of Lost Harry Reid.

The Republicans.  Welcome to the Beauty of 2010.

A year from now, the Zero Presidency will be seen by a growing majority of voters as a colossal failure – and Zero himself will be a broken man.  He will attempt to deflect hatred for his failure not towards Republicans but his fellow Democrats, Pelosi and Reid personally and in particular.

Yet however much a failure Zero and the Dems are judged to be, the Pubs will not be able to generate any solid enthusiasm for them unless voters see they’ve had a Come to Jesus experience and are truly Born Again believers in cutting – actually reducing – government down to size.
 
They can’t do this with Milquetoast Mitch McConnell in the Senate, only with new leaders like Jim DeMint.  Read Jim’s The American Option in this week’s TTP to see why.

There is obviously no way Jim could get his American Option alternative to the Zero Stimulus past Pelosi-Reid – until and unless Zero capitulates and joins him against them.

If this sounds far-fetched, think Lula in Brazil.  Lula da Silva was for many years the leader of the Marxist Workers Party, and when he was elected president, everyone thought Brazil was headed straight off a Marxist cliff.

But Lula, to the left’s total outrage, turned pro-capitalist (or at least as much was realistically possible in populist Brazil), and today, Brazil is a growing powerhouse that grows enough food to feed China and will be the only major economy in the world to post a positive GDP (around 2.5 to 3%) this year.

Lula did this of his own free will.  Zero will do it because it will be the only way to salvage his broken ego.

By next spring, you will see this scenario emerge.  By next summer all the talk will be the Miracle of Republican Ascendancy, by next November the Pubs will gain two dozen House seats and a half-dozen in the Senate.

That won’t be enough to gain majorities.  For that, they need at least 40 House and 9 Senate.  But they’ll be close, the Dems will be in disarray and discredited.  2012 with Palin or Jindal, they’ll have both the north and south sides of the Capitol and the White House. 

Then an era of economic freedom can begin as the era of big government ends.

One ultimate irony is that this scenario was be made possible by the electorate in a spasm of lunacy electing Zero.  It would not be possible if it had elected John McCain, who would have perpetuated the same old "moderate" milquetoast Republicanism.

Thus we’ll owe the Beauty of 2010 to Zero.  God really does have a sense of humor.
