NOTO PATRIOTISM AND THE GSY REVOLUTION

It’s Wednesday morning here in Washington D.C., January 21, 2009.  Tell me, did something unusual happen here yesterday?  I heard there was some kind of ruckus on the Mall near the Capitol, some kind of circus – but there weren’t any elephants, and what’s a circus without any elephants?

There were a lot of jackasses instead, somebody said.  Anyway, I was writing all day, working on my novel, The Jade Steps, and wasn’t paying attention.  Well, I did take a break and turn on the TV – to watch a Clark Gable-Ava Gardner classic, Mogambo.

Evidently, I learned, some guy, nobody knows who he really is, with a goofy name and big goofy ears was giving a speech full of fluffy puffy cliché-ridden platitudes and nothing else.  I enjoyed my movie.

Yep, I was adhering to my motto:  If you can’t beat them – ignore them.  Or tell them GSY.  We’ll get to that in a moment.

For these are the only two ways to cope with the terrifyingly deranged glorification of Zero. 

The young son of a friend of mine, conservative author and pr exec Craig Shirley, goes to an elementary school in Alexandria, Virginia.  The principal, Tish Howard, last Friday (1/16) had red ribbons passed out to all the students, together with a flyer saying they were "encouraged" to wear the ribbons "in support of our new president, Barack Obama."

Craig has a research assistant who grew up in Communist Yugoslavia, where all the students were indoctrinated to show their love for their leader for life, Marshall Tito, by wearing red scarves.  "Here it’s red ribbons," he observes. "Needless to say, the school did nothing like this four or eight years ago."  His son refused to wear the scarlet badge.

Thus it starts, a new definition of patriotism, a freedom-destroying fascist patriotism like that imposed by America’s first fascist dictator, Woodrow Wilson.

It’s frighteningly illuminating to read the chapter on "Woodrow Wilson and the Birth of Liberal Fascism" in Jonah Goldberg’s book, Liberal Fascism.  Wilson created an Orwellian propaganda machine called the Committee on Public Information to demonize Germany, get us into World War One on England’s side, and denounce as treason any activity not perceived as "100 percent American."

Wilson’s Justice Department organized hundreds of thousands of private citizens as members of the American Protective League or APL, to spy on their neighbors, co-workers, and friends, reporting them for saying anything "un-American."

Wilson’s Sedition Act, passed in May of 1918 made any criticism of the government – even in your own home – a criminal act for which you could be imprisoned for up to 20 years.  Over 175,000 Americans were arrested under the Sedition Act, most of whom were fined, and many of whom sent to jail.

Patriotism was defined by Wilson as obedience, obedience to the State, with no criticism or ridicule of it tolerated.  And, as Goldberg shows conclusively, imposing such fascist patriotism was done by liberal "progressive" Democrats.

We are headed this way again – only worse with the State now embodied in a Dear Leader worshipped by his followers as a Demi-God.  Thus the phenomenon that is emerging:  OTO Patriotism, a fascist patriotism defined as Obedience To Obama.

It’s going to get worse the more he fails.

There is no possible way his policies and beliefs can succeed in creating more economic prosperity, opportunity, and freedom – especially when compounded by the raging horde of Democrat Fascists now running Capitol Hill.

His every failure, however, will only serve to infuriate his supporters against those who are "thwarting" his noble efforts.  The more he fails, the more the determination will be to locate scapegoats.  We will see a replay of the days of Stalin in 1930s Russia, when his every failure was blamed on evil "wreckers" of the Communist dream.

We are a way from all of this right now.  This is the time to not let anything bother you, not get excited or upset, to switch channels when the news comes on, to ignore Zero while the mania of optimism runs its course. 

Don’t worry – you’ll still have To The Point to let you know what’s going on in the world.

Then will come the time – months from now or perhaps a little longer – when the frenzy fades, the reality of Zero Failure starts setting in, and the fascist scapegoating begins.  By that time, another layer of fascist legislation, bureaucracy, and regulation will be in place over the bottomless layers we have already.  By that time, taxes will be more onerous and the economy will be more disastrous.  It will be time for the GSY Revolution.

This is the Revolution of Non-Obedience.  It is the revolution of ceasing to pay attention to fascist rules and regulations.  The only way a vast number of businesses will have any chance of surviving will be to ignore government rules and regulations.  The only way vast multitudes of individuals will have of avoiding poverty will be to do whatever it takes to prevent the government from stealing their money via taxes, fees, and fines.

You can expect a lot of folks in California, for example, to send an IOU to Sacramento instead of their state taxes this year, since that’s what they just got instead of a refund.  Expect even more not to file at all.

At first it will be a silent rebellion.  Sooner or later, however, some CEO or small business owner is going to get a letter from some bureaucrat saying he or his company is in violation of the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act or some OSHA reg, and he is going to reply with a letter saying: 

Dear Mr. Bureaucrat: 

In regard to your letter of [date] saying we are in violation of [rule]:

GSY

Sincerely,

By now, you may have guessed what GSY stands for.  Since TTP is a family publication, it is actually the polite version of a more explicit acronym.  GSY:  Go Screw Yourselves.

This is going to happen.  You may think the fascists will come down on anyone who dares to GSY defy them and their laws so hard it will scare the rest off.  They will jail folks and the media will demonize them as examples of unpatriotic evil.  But by then the Silent GSY Revolution will be well underway.

Further, there is going to be so much pent-up anger at Zero Fascism that a lot of folks won’t be scared off, and then comes a tipping point.  For the courts can handle only so many cases until they are overwhelmed, and the laws, rules, and regulations can no longer be enforced.

This will be the New American Revolution – one fought not so much with guns (although there will be some of that, hopefully fairly minimal), but with that good old liberal stand-by of civil disobedience.  Call it the new Anti-Fascist Civil Rights Movement:  Freedom Not Fascism!  

Or call it NOTO Patriotism:  No Obedience To Obama.

And in the meantime, what better way to let people know where you stand than to wear a TTP O=Zero t-shirt?
