PELOSI AND THE PKK

House Speaker Pelosi Galore has suffered a bombardment of criticism for pushing a vote for the Armenian Genocide Resolution, H. Res. 106.  Note its date of introduction to the relevant committee with a registered bill number:  January 30, 2007.  Over eight months later, she starts flogging this dead historical horse.  Why now?

The criticism has all been for Pelosi's "ignorance" of Turkish sensitivities in the matter and her "incompetence" for her embroiling the House in a pointless debacle.  As Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) said in the Orlando GOP presidential candidate debate (10/22):
 
"Nancy Pelosi is not a very good Speaker and is a lousy Secretary of State."

But what if she's much worse than that?  What if she is pushing the Armenian resolution for the conscious purpose of damaging America's increasingly successful war in Iraq? 

And there is an even more frightening question.

Shortly after Pelosi began pushing the resolution earlier this month, PKK Kurdish guerrillas dramatically increased their attacks on Turkish targets from bases just across the border in Iraq.  Turkey has mobilized troops and is threatening to invade Iraq to go after them. 

What if the timing of these two events one after the other is not coincidental?  What if Speaker Pelosi is in collusion with the PKK to ruin America's impending victory in Iraq?

Iraqi Kurdistan bordering Turkey is Iraq's greatest success story, Iraq's most peaceful and prosperous region.  Much of this prosperity depends on booming trade and business with Turkey.  Much of America's war effort depends on supplies and troop rotation run through the Incirlik air base in southern Turkey. 

If you wanted the best way to screw up our war in Iraq, inciting Turkey into invading Iraqi Kurdistan and shutting down Incirlik if we try to stop them would be your choice.

This is, in fact, what just about everybody in Iraqi Kurdistan believes Nancy Pelosi is doing.

Last April, Pelosi made her infamous trip to Damascus to meet and kiss the derrière of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.  Bashar and his Mukharabat secret police, along with Iran's Ahmadinejad and his Pasdaran Revolutionary Guard, are the biggest supporters of terrorism against the Iraqi government and our military in Iraq.

According to my sources within the Kurdistan Regional Government in Irbil, Iraq, at that time Pelosi's accompanying staffers established contact with representatives of the PKK in Damascus.

For background on the PKK (Kurdish initials for Partiya Karkerên Kurdistan, Kurdish Workers Party), see The Kurdish Card in Turkey (TTP, April 2007).  It was established by KGB agent Yevgeny Primakov in 1978 as a Marxist insurgency run by a Kurdish student leader on the Soviet payroll, Abdullah Öcalan (pronounced urch-a-lon).  Öcalan was given sanctuary by the Assad regime in Damascus for years until Turkey forced his deportation in 1998. 

Thus the Assad-PKK relation goes back a long time, and continues to this day.  The PKK's headquarters remains in Damascus, and it was easy for Pelosi's people to contact PKK representatives.

Or rather, one faction of the PKK, since the guerrilla group splintered into more than a half dozen organizations after Öcalan's arrest.  There is no "PKK" as a monolithic or even umbrella group any longer. 

One faction is busy as a conduit smuggling heroin into Europe (again see The Kurdish Card in Turkey:  the conduit is the Afghan Taliban-Iran Pasdaran-Turkey PKK) in cahoots with Iranian mullahs and corrupt Turkish generals.

Another has abandoned guerrilla activity, reconfiguring into a political group negotiating with Ankara for an amnesty granted to former guerrilla fighters.

Another is on the Syrian Muhkarabat payroll, paid to spy on anti-Assad Kurdish activists.  Syria has a sizable Kurdish population of over two million, most of whom live in the northeast wedge bordering Turkey and Iraq.  But there are sizeable Kurdish communities in Aleppo, the main port of Latakia, and Damascus, home to 100,000 Kurds.

The other purpose of the Damascus-based faction of the PKK is to create trouble for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq.  The leader of this faction is Murat Karayilan – and it was with Karayilan's people that Pelosi's staffers are believed to have met in Damascus last April.

Karayilan is now leading the "PKK" attacks on Turkish targets from northern Iraq. 

This region of northern Iraq is mountainous and remote.  The KRG does not have the helicopters, tracked armored vehicles, and troops to control it.  Plus the KRG has little desire to try, given the growing Turkish hysteria over something known as Article 140.

That article in the Iraqi Constitution approved by 85% of Iraqi voters in December 2005 calls for a referendum to be held by the end of 2007 determining whether or not the KRG has jurisdiction over the city of Kirkuk.

Should the referendum pass, the KRG would not only have Kirkuk – the "Kurdish Jerusalem," their holy city, back as their capital, but also jurisdiction over the legendary Kirkuk oilfields, giving Iraqi Kurdistan enormous oil wealth.  This, the Turks fear, would be a giant step towards their ultimate nightmare, an independent Kurdistan.

An independent Kurdistan carved out of northern Iraq would cause in the eyes of Ankara, Damascus, and Tehran, the breakup of Syria, Turkey, and Iran, as their Kurdish areas would secede and join Iraqi Kurdistan.

The deadline of this December for the Kirkuk Referendum is catalyzing this fear, particularly among the Turks – which is why Nancy Pelosi chose right now to put her plan to trigger a Turkey-Kurdistan crisis into action.

The timing was perfect in her eyes because she and the George Soros-MoveOn moonbats that control the Democrat Party desperately need something to damage or ideally reverse the victory in Iraq that our military is now achieving.

As the suspicion spreads among Republican Congressmen that Pelosi has not simply "blundered" regarding the Armenian resolution but is engaging in straightforward purposeful treason in encouraging and organizing the current Turkey-Kurdistan crisis, it's going to be interesting to see whom among them has the cajones to call for a hearing investigating her and her staff.

The Speaker of the House is second in line of presidential succession.  If the President and Vice-President are both incapacitated, the Speaker becomes President.  The current Speaker may not be so innocent as to be simply ignorant or incompetent.  She may be another Benedict Arnold.
