VICTORY OVER JIHAD DAY

We mourn and grieve on September 11.  We should celebrate on September 12.  Today is Victory Over Jihad Day.

For it was on September 12 that the Moslem Jihad to conquer Europe was defeated, decisively defeated for centuries.  The year was 1683.  The battle scene was Vienna. We owe this victory over jihad to one of the truly great heroes of Western Civilization, Jan Sobieski (so-be-yes-key), Jan III, King of Poland (1629-1696).

A quick perusal of the map at the beginning of Asia Minor (Part Two) shows how much of  Europe was part of the Ottoman Moslem Empire.  Now in 1683 its ruler, Sultan Mehmet IV declared a Holy War to convert the rest of Christendom to Islam.  His first target was Vienna, capital of the Holy Roman Empire ruled by the Hapsburgs of Austria.

If Vienna fell, the rest of Europe would lay at the Sultan’s Moslem feet.  When 140,000 Ottoman soldiers appeared at the gates of Vienna in July and launched a siege, the Hapsburg Emperor, Leopold I, ran away, leaving a garrison of only 13,000 troops to defend the city.

Rather than fight himself, Leopold begged the King of Poland to come to his capital’s rescue.  “Your name alone,” he wrote in a message to Sobieski, “so terrible to the enemy, will ensure a victory.”

At least Leopold knew the right guy to call for help.

For 16 years, Sobieski had been beating the allah out of Moslem armies.  After cleaning out a huge horde of marauding Tatars and Cossacks sent by the Sultan to pillage Poland in 1667, he was made Grand Hetman (commander in chief) of the Polish Army.

During the Polish-Ottoman War from 1672-1676, he inflicted a series of  crushing defeats on Moslem forces, such as the battle of Khotym (Nov. 1673), after which with the death of King Michael I he was elected King of Poland, and the battle of Zurawno resulting in a peace treaty whereby the Sultan agreed Poland was to never pay him any tribute again.

Thus Sobieski was the one European the Sultan didn’t want to mess with.  The Sultan well knew what Sobieski had proclaimed in a letter to Louis XIV (beside being a fellow king, he was married to the daughter of a French marquis):

To give the barbarian conquest for conquest, to pursue him from victory to victory, over the very frontier that belched him forth upon Europe, to hurl him back into the deserts, to exterminate him, to raise upon his ruins the Empire of Byzantium:  this enterprise alone is Christian, this alone is noble and wise.

The Sultan bet Vienna would fall before Sobieski and his forces could arrive in time.  By early September he was sure of it.  Vienna was starving and its fortifications on the brink of collapse.  Only a few more days and Vienna – then all of Europe – would be his.

On September 6, Sobieski, with 3,000 heavy cavalry and 23,000 infantry, crossed the Danube 18 miles northwest of Vienna at Tulln to link with 18,000 fighters from German principalities who had answered a plea from Pope Innocent XI to rescue Christendom.

The battle was joined before dawn on the morning of September 12.  The fighting raged right under the gates of Vienna for 12 hours.  Then Sobieski assembled his heavy cavalry on a rise called Kahlenberg (bare hill) and led a charge straight for the main Ottoman camp.

The Sultan and his vizier, Mustafa Pasha, had organized everything for a siege rather than a battle.  Ottoman tents were encompassed with fountains and gardens, and equipped with tapestries, baths, and concubines.  Sobieski’s cavalry crashed into the camp and cut the elite Ottoman janissaries – the finest forces the Sultan had – into pieces.

The huge Moslem army that was to conquer Europe broke and fled, leaving 15,000 dead on the battlefield (vs. 3,000 Christians).  The Jihad on Western Civilization was over.

When, then, will Islam’s current Jihad against us be over?  Because rest assured, it will be over, most likely not with a bang like the Battle of Vienna (or nuking Mecca) but with a whimper – a Moslem whimper.

A whimper is what I’m hearing with Osama Bin Laden’s alleged video speech released last week.  Take a careful look at this pathetic drivel, folks.  You just won’t believe how sophomoric and downright stupid it is.

Evidently it was ghost-written for him by a Jewish kid named Adam Pearlman from Riverside, California (I’m not making this up), who’s become a Moslem Marxist and calls himself Adam Gadahn.

Pearlman’s such a complete idiot that he thinks Donald Rumsfeld was secretary of defense under Dwight Eisenhower (i.e., before “Kennedy took over the presidency”) and murdered two million villagers in Vietnam.

He thinks “the Jewish community in Morocco today is one of the largest communities in the world,” when there’s but a few thousand of them left.  Then there’s the stuff about global warming and predatory corporations.

The whole thing is so goofy-Marxist that, as Jack Kelly observes in Osama as a Coffee House Commie, that Osama “sounds more like Keith Olbermann, MSNBC’s nutty talk show host, than like an Islamic terrorist leader.”

Now, in answer to the question a number of you have asked me:  yes, I think OBL’s croaked.  The video is phony.  He’s as dead as yesterday’s news.  (Jack Kelly agrees with me, by the way.)  The CIA is overly-eager to claim the video is “authentic” because they and the Bushistas think that if the American public thinks Bin Laden is dead, it will conclude the “War on Terrorism” is over and won.

So whatever fervor there is left for funding and fighting it will dry up.  The CIA thinks they need to keep Osama alive.  Thus Langley is afraid to explain the reality:  that he’s a joke of a corpse.

The video depiction of Osama as a bozo with a fake beard shows how clueless the Al Qaeda crazies have become.  They remain very dangerous crazies.  We must not relent for a moment in the effort to hunt them down and kill them.

Yet the time for being afraid of these cave-dwelling proto-hominids is over.  The war upon them should be conducted not with fear but with contempt.

Again, read the transcript of the fake OBL video then ask yourself:  “We’re supposed to be afraid and intimidated by this?  Puh-leeze.”

So – we come to the greatest weapon in our arsenal against Jihadism.  Absolutely no doubt, we need the Marines in Iraq, and aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf, and the NSA/FBI tracking evildoers down armed with the Patriot Act, the whole array.

But the final, most devastating weapon that will do the Jihadis in is:  laughter.

Ridicule, refusing to take them seriously but as some kind of deranged joke instead, is what will make their brains explode.  Refusing to give them the respect they so pathologically crave from us infidels  — that’s what will defeat them.

In The Alpha of 9/11 and The Omega of Iraq last week, we discussed how Al Qaeda has been defeated in Iraq.  With this pathetic phony Osama video, we may be witnessing the defeat of Al Qaeda, period.  The day we may celebrate our own Victory Over Jihad Day, rather than that of an old heroic Polish Knight, may not be far off.
