CREDENCE IN GAZA

With apologies to John Fogerty and Credence Clearwater Revival:

I see the bad Palestinian moon arising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see earthquakes and lightning.
I see bad Gaza times today.

Don’t go around in Gaza tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life,
There’s a bad Palestinian moon on the rise.

I hear Hamas storms a-blowing.
I know the PA’s end is coming soon.
I fear Hezbollah rivers over flowing.
I hear the voice of Islamic Jihad’s rage and ruin.

Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.
Looks like we’re in for nasty Gaza weather.
One Palestinian eye is taken for an eye.

Don’t go around in Gaza tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life,
There’s a bad Palestinian moon on the rise.

A year and a half ago, February 2004, I wrote The Coming Palestinian Civil War . It praised the Machiavellian deviousness of Ariel Sharon in building a security fence, pulling out of Gaza, and getting Jews safely inside a Fortress Israel, after which the suicidal energy of the Palestinians would be turned upon themselves.

Last week, as Israel completed its pullout from Gaza and turned it over to the Palestinians, there was the following news bulletin:

Gaza City – Mussa Arafat, a military advisor to Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas and a cousin of the late Yasser Arafat, was shot dead after a gunbattle at his home in Gaza City early on Tuesday, September 7.
The former Palestinian security chief, one of the traditional strongmen of the Gaza Strip, was shot in front of his wife and son before being dragged out onto the street by about 100 masked gunmen, where an additional 23 bullets were pumped into his body, security and medical sources said.
His body was left lying in the street. The Popular Resistance Committees claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it killed Arafat to punish him for corruption offenses and collaboration with Israel.

This is just the start, folks. The Resistance Committees are portrayed as a “renegade” group, when in actuality they are run by Hamas to give Hamas deniability for terrorist acts when politically convenient.

100 gunmen? And where was the PA (Palestinian Authority) police? Nowhere. We’re seeing the emergence of a Beirut Civil War in Gaza, anarchic bloody chaos, as Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Al-Aqsa Brigades, and other bands of heavily armed thugs fight the PA and try to kill each other off.

The Palestinian “government” of Mahmud Abbas is proving utterly incapable of stopping the anarchy. Abbas’ primary tactic is to try and buy terrorists from various groups off by putting them on the PA payroll. So now the PA is riddled with moles and spies from those groups.

Abbas refuses to disarm Hamas and all other armed terrorist armies running rampant in Gaza. His PA is finished, and there is naught but murderous anarchy to follow. The tragedy will be awful, not least because there are plenty of Palestinians who just want to make a peaceful living.

All Gaza farmer Hussein Abu Rabiya dreams of, for example, is growing his “special Gaza strawberries” once again. The Israelis are happy for him to so and buy his strawberries. But he and so many of his compatriots will now be caught in a terroristic crossfire rendering such peaceful dreams a nightmare. Once again, the tragic wisdom of Sharon is right.
