There are many backup programs to choose from. I did not test dozens of contenders against one another. I took the advice of the computer magazines. Most rated SyncBackSE at or near the top. That’s the one I bought and it’s the one I’ll review.

By now I don’t have to take you step by step through paying and downloading the setup file.

Once downloaded, double-click the icon and the installation procedure begins.

The latest version is 4.01 but I haven’t bothered to upgrade my subscription yet.

Once installed, run the program. There are two ways, at least. One is clicking ‘Start’, hovering the mouse over programs, navigating to SyncBackSE, and clicking. The other is to click the icon the installation program places on your desktop.

The first time you open SyncBackSE you’ll be asked to create a profile a particular backup procedure.

Click yes and choose a name.

You’ll then be asked whether you want to copy files to another location, or synchronize the files in two folders. For this column I choose the first. You can do as you please.

Now you fill out the details of the profile – what exactly you want copied. What folder and to what folder.

It’s normal to want the source directory and all of its subdirectories. You’re given several choices.

Now browse for the source folder, by clicking the top left browse button.

And similarly, select the destination. Here’s what a profile setup looks like when it’s completed.

When you click OK, you get another form. You can schedule this profile, add profiles, and delete them and more.

For these tasks you’ll need the help file. It’ll answer all your questions. There are also forums where you can ask for more help.

All in all, I find SyncBackSE easy to use and it does everything I want.
