AN EXODUS OF WEASELS

“The Sheriff,” as new CIA Director Porter Goss is becoming known, is getting rave reviews from the agency’s rank and file for serving notice to the Rogue Weasels that their left-wing views and attempts to sabotage the Bush Administration will receive zero tolerance. “Watch for a lot of road kill on 123 (Route 123, the highway in McLean, Virginia that goes past the CIA main entrance) as the weasels scurry away,” I’m told.

Found lying on the roadside yesterday (11/11) was weasel leader Mike Scheuer, who wrote the Bush-trashing “Imperial Hubris” book under the pseudonym “Anonymous.” While a lot of what Scheuer wrote was right on the mark, namely his withering criticism of the FBI and of senior agency guys (like Tenet) doing the CYA dance over 9/11, he twisted it all into bashing Bush and making an argument for John Kerry-type terrorism-is-a-nuisance-and-law-enforcement problem. That the CIA Review Office allowed him to write this book is a scandal never to be repeated under Sheriff Goss’s watch.

But even better news than the departure of the CIA weasels is the departure of their counterparts on the National Security Council of the White House. Bob Blackwill’s sudden resignation from the NSC, where he was Bush’s key advisor on Iraq and Iran, is a cause for real celebration.

Back in April when the Marines were poised to take Fallujah, it was Blackwill who demanded the Marines stand down so that the State Department’s stooge, Adnan Pachachi, could “negotiate” with the terrorists. We know the results. All of the problems with Fallujah since, such as the terrorism unleashed by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi who used Fallujah as his base, can be laid at Blackwill’s feet,

Further, Blackwill was constantly arguing for appeasement with Iran, for making a deal with the Mullah Terror Masters in Tehran, and ragingly opposed to bombing Iran’s nuclear facilities. There was real fear that this guy was poised to replace Condi Rice as the head of the NSC and the President’s National Security Advisor (Condi is rumored to be replacing Colin Powell at State). The buzz is that Blackwill’s famous temper did him in, physically abusing an embassy secretary in Kuwait when he couldn’t get on an airplane. This man is a first class jerk and a true menace to America’s national security. We have dodged a bullet with him now gone.

There will always be such folk. During the Reagan years, Reaganauts in the White House had to fight a continual battle with squishes who shivered at the thought of confronting the Soviets. So it is now, so it will always be. But things are definitely looking brighter at the CIA. They are brighter at the NSC. Now let’s hope that another whisper is true: that the guy who will replace Condi as National Security Advisor once she goes to State will be Rumsfeld’s Under Secretary … Paul Wolfowitz. There wouldn’t be a squish left standing in the OEOB (Old Executive Office Building, part of the White House complex) with the Ultimate Neocon in charge.
