A WONDERFUL REGISTRY CLEANER

Those of you who regularly read my column know I’ve been looking for the very best registry cleaner that doesn’t delete important or crucial entries. I’ve discussed this matter in various forums and found one I’m now certain to buy, after testing the trial version.

It can be found at Macecraft Software – http://www.jv16.org/ – and the name of the product is jv16 Power Tools. An odd name but a fine registry cleaner.

Read about it, download the trial version and if you like it as much as I do, buy it.

Before you run any powerful registry cleaner, you should back up your registry.

Click Help and Support from Start.

In the search box type in ‘backup registry’. This brings up the following windows. Click ‘Back up System State data’.

Because I’ve had problems using the windows tool – you may not – I’m demonstrating the backup using the command line. It’s all written clearly. You should have no problem.

If you want, use the windows interface. If you don’t have problems, then avoid the command line.

Now we get to pv16. I’m only using it for registry cleaning.

PV16 apparently has a conflict with my screen capture utility. When your mouse hovers over registry tools, only the top four icons will show. Click the second one, for cleaning your registry.

The results might knock you off your feet. Fortunately I was already sitting down.

Jv power tools found 530 items that needed to be removed or corrected. I couldn’t believe this. Other tools found 2 or 3 errors. I was quite reluctant to select all of them and delete. In fact I didn’t. I closed jv and went back to the forums to discuss this. All the users assured me that nothing untoward would happen.

Finally I ran it again, checked a few, and held my breath. The computer still ran. I selected a few more after the next run, then rebooted. Whew! Still worked. Now I’m a believer, select them all and remove.
