JEWISH DONORS ABANDONING DEMOCRATIC PARTY?

President Bush scored a triple whammy with his meeting with Ariel Sharon, announcing that the Palestinians can forget about the so-called Right of Return and seizing all of the so-called West Bank.

1. Bush was announcing to the Arab world that since it is not helping him in Iraq, he is going to ignore their concerns regarding “Palestine.”

2. He was announcing to the Palestinians that as long as they choose to have thugs and terrorists like Arafat and Hamas as their leaders, he will ignore their concerns.

3. And he announced to the Democratic Party that he is going to walk away with their Jewish donors.

Until recently, over two-thirds of donations to the Democratic Party (in total dollars not number of donors) came from Jewish contributors. That is changing fast, as American Jews recognize that Bush and conservative Republicans are far bigger and more reliable supporters of Israel than Democrats and pro-Palestinian liberals.

Two examples: American Jewish Congress president and former big-time Dem donor Jack Rosen has given $100,000 to the GOP and the Bush campaign. Major (and now former) Dem fund-raisers Ron and Dawn Arnall of California, who raised $1.5 million for Algore in 2000, have now raised $1 million for the Bush campaign and given another million of their own to the RNC.

Even my perpetually nervous friends in Jerusalem are finally understanding that GW is the best friend Israel has ever had in the White House. Certainly a good many Jewish Americans are getting the message. And that’s real bad news for Democrats.
